History
Vasanta College for the women was first established by the Dr. Annie Besant in 1913 within the campus of Theosophical Society (a pioneer institution) having aim of offering the advanced education to the woman. In 1954 Vasanta College was moved to the campus of Krishnamurti Foundation India (an international foundation operating the many educational institutions in various parts of India and abroad), Rajghat. Krishnamurti Foundation India was established by the foster son of Dr. Annie Besant, the Shri J Krishnamurti. The past Trustees of the college are Shri Achyut Patwardhan, Shri M B L Dar, Shri Iqbal Narayan Gurtu, and Shri R R Upasani.
According to the J. Krishnamurti the right education helps us to discover our reality. It has spread out over 300 acres of area in the Rajghat, Varanasi. Vasanta College has a striking campus and natural environment on the Gange river banks. The college is near about to complete its 100 years. Working in the positive lines, college feels to communicate the right education to women. Some of the college alumni are Smt. Vijaya Raje Sindhiya, Ms. Charushila, Prof. Jyoti Verma, Prof. Sushila Singh, Prof. Vidula Jaiswal, Smt. Manju Sundaram, and Prof. Meena Lal.
Vasanta College, Benares is one of the oldest and reputed institutions of the state and did many revolutionary works for women’s education in India. It is associated with the BHU and offers B.A. (Hons) and one year B. Ed. degree for many subjects such as Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities. Around 1000 students are enrolled in this college. The college has its own transport system as well as a big hostel within the campus known as the Vasanta Ashram. College year begins in the month of July and ends in the month of April including three weeks break in the month of October/November.
The college is under the state government, so students have to pay negligible tuition fees. Admission starts after the entrance test which is conducted by the Banaras Hindu University every year in the month of May.

Courses and Facilities
The college offers both Post Graduate and Undergraduate courses, some diploma and certification courses are available in Travel and Tourism Management. College also has a number of teaching blocks, computer courses, labs, health centre, sports ground, guest house and hostel outfitted with the modern infrastructure and amenities. Free coaching facility is available for the students of minority and SC/ST. A variety of extra-curricular activities support theory classes for understanding purpose of the student. Some other activities are there for student personality building such as debates, poetic recitations, drama, musical competitions and many more.

• It was the first College in UP which has been assessed and accredited by the NAAC.
• It is the only college in BHU having open air theatre where traditional and cultural shows are staged every year.
• It has its own dairy farm to offer pure milk of Jersey cows to the student in hostel.
• It has 25 bedded hospital with Doctor, nurses and a Dental Surgeon including Pathology Lab, X-ray and ECG facilities.
• It has its own transport system with 7 buses and 2 cars.
• The college organizes a community development programs for the community awareness.
