Archaeological Museum Varanasi

Archaeological museum is located in Sarnath (Known as the place of Gautam Budhh) and oldest site museum of India. The Government of India took a decision in 1904, to construct a site museum in front of the excavated site at Sarnath to maintain its antiquities found from the site. This museum was created because of the Sir John Marshall, the Director General of Archaeology of India. The big plans were made by Mr. James Ramson, the famous consulting Architect to the Government of India. The building of Archaeological museum was completed in the year 1910 to collect, display and study its antiquities.

Archaeological museum in Sarnath has five big galleries and two verandahs to show all the antiquities ranges from 3rd century B.C. to 12th century A.D.
